Topic outline

  • General

This separate Moodle course is an easy way to access information for discussion groups and individual tutorials, as a supplement to the main Reflective Practice Moodle course.

  • Discussion Group 1

    • What is reflective practice? How do we reflect?
    • Setting reflection-informed goals
    • Reflecting collaboratively

    What is reflective practice?

    • Questions our processes (both individual and collaborative)
    • Encourages deeper learning / embeds knowledge
    • Intrinsically motivating, helping us overcome blocks
    • Envisage the future
    • What do I believe in?
    How do we reflect?

    • Reflection in action – thinking while doing
    • Reflection on action – thinking after doing

    Models of Reflection

    A Sample Model

    • What happened?
    • Why did it happen?
    • What does that information tell you about yourself?
    • How does that information help you further develop?

    Another model

    • Action – look
    • Description – list
    • Reflection – what do you notice?
    • Reflection on reflection – what does that tell you?
    • Change of arena – from private to public

    Other models?

    Activity

List significant artistic moments in the last 6 months

    In pairs, share…

    • the one you are most proud of and why
    • the one you found most challenging and why
    • Question each other… dig deeper!

Come back and share the most helpful question your partner asked you.

    Some helpful questions:

    • Why am I a musician?
    • What kind of career do I want?
    • How much do I want to change the world?
    • What am I trying to do

    First essay

Identifies objectives and suggests strategies for the coming year (1350-1650 words)

    Setting goals

    • Short-term for the chimp
    • Long-term for our whole careers
    • How can we break down big goals to fit into this immediate year?
    • SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely)

    What’s next

Choose how to keep a record of your journey through the year (written journal, voice notes on your phone), because things may well shift; this will then form the material for your second SRA

    Individual tutorials - Monday 18th October 9am-12.30pm
