The aim of the course is for you to write a new piece during the week (around 5 minutes max, decided in liaison with the performers) for either Heather Roche (Bb or Bass Clarinet) or Ben Smith (Piano), with our input and support. We are happy to look at past work and drafts of complete pieces, but the aim is to write something new in a condensed time period.
The course will include seminars on ‘Tools for generation and proliferation’ and ‘short forms’, one to one tutorials, peer to peer feedback and workshops, with plenty of time to work directly with Heather and Ben. (A draft of schedule is attached, and we will provide print outs of the final schedule on Monday morning.)
Our desire in shaping the course is for it to be reflective of our Composition Department ethos in a concentrated form, blending craft with play/experimentation and supporting you to make great work.
