    Task

Decide how to arpeggiate the chords in the recitative 'Armida, dispietata...' from Handel's Rinaldo

The following two example videos feature arpeggiations that either support or detract from the singer's performance (see if you can spot which is the good example, and which is the bad!).

1st example (thanks Flo for sharing this video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne-RHNXmhtQ

    2nd example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=hTzzBSk-Bu8

You can listen to additional recordings, try things out on a keyboard if you have access to one, discuss with your classmates, or use your imagination to consider which types of arpeggiation might work well in this particular recitative. Be ready to share your proposed arpeggiations with the rest of the class on Wednesday 17th June.
